Occasionally, I like to point my 6SE at targets that are probably better suited to larger aperture scopes. This time I decided to see what might happen with Arp 273, The Rose. I'm learning that my humble little 6SE is quite capable when paired with a good equatorial mount and the superb sensitivity of the ASI294MM Pro. I was a bit surprised by the result.

Conditions were bad during these imaging sessions on account of the bright moon, poor seeing and intermittent clouds passing by. A lot of subs ended up in the recycle bin but enough remained to coax out some detail.

Processing involved some heavy cropping to allow for zooming in on the target. I also applied super resolution with Photoshop which seemed to help preserve some detail. Star color is lackluster, but I don't know if that is from shooting during bright moonlight and poor seeing or more likely some deficiency with my processing skills.

It's hard to believe this modest set-up captured a target 300 million light years distant. I'm leaning to acquiring an Edge HD 8 as my next scope so that I have a bit more horsepower for chasing these sorts of distant targets.
